A Boy Cricketer Batting (Very Rare)
Stock No: 002403
Height: 7.5 Inches / 19 cm
Reference: Previously Unrecorded
This is a finely coloured, standing figure of a young boy playing cricket. He is bareheaded and dressed in a collared shirt, a tightly fitted jacket, and trousers. The boy holds a cricket bat with both hands, with a wicket to his right. This original Victorian Staffordshire figure, made between 1845 and 1850, is extremely rare and highly desirable. It is decorated with both underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze enamel colours, showcasing sharp detail. This piece is one of the first to come out of the moulds and is in its original condition, with no repairs or restoration. It does have some minor age-related surface chips and wear to the gilded highlights. To my knowledge, I have been unable to find a book reference for this figure; it appears to be the only recorded example.
