A Cricketing Still Life Spill Vase

Stock No: 001954

Height: 5.5 Inches / 14 cm

Reference: Cricket Ceramics (1750-1977) James Merchant

A very rare and unusual Staffordshire majolica spill vase holder in the shape of a cricketing still life, the stumps forming the spill or pipe holders, a cricket glove rests against the bottom of the stumps, as does the ball, a bat leans at an angle against the stumps, 5.5 inches high and in perfect condition. The figure was made in Staffordshire c1880, perhaps a special commission for a cricket club dinner, made to sit in the middle of a table, as it is moulded and modelled the same on both sides.
