This exquisite and rare group figure artistically represents a sailor and his companion, a charming young girl. The sailor is depicted in a dynamic pose, standing confidently with his right hand raised, grasping a vibrant flag that billows gently, while his left hand rests assertively on his hip. He is attired in period-appropriate naval clothing, complete with a stylish brimmed hat that adds to his maritime appearance, a fitted jacket, a crisp shirt, a classic neckerchief, and tailored trousers, all reflecting the nautical fashion of the time.

Seated gracefully beside him, the girl adds an element of warmth and charm to the composition. She sits with her right hand elegantly resting in her lap, while her left hand gently clutches a sheaf of corn, symbolizing fertility and abundance. Her attire consists of a fashionable plumed hat, a beautifully cut blouse, and a flowing skirt, which together enhance her graceful demeanor.

This remarkable piece was crafted in Staffordshire, England, during the mid-19th century, specifically around 1856, at the time of the conclusion of the Crimean War. The figurine is believed to convey a poignant message of “Peace and Plenty,” capturing the essence of hope and prosperity following a period of conflict.
