A Diminutive William Shakespeare Bust

Stock No: 001081

Height: 4.1 Inches / 10.5 cm

Reference: Possibly Unrecorded

A fine and previously unrecorded early 19th-century diminutive signed bust of William Shakespeare (1564- 1616) in very good condition. An excellent example showing how well the decorators have applied the overglaze enamel to the face detail, gold highlights, and cursive script title. The bottom inside of the bust has a small incised name, written into the body while the clay was wet, it is hard to decipher but looks like ‘Will’, perhaps a shortened version of William? Staffordshire c1830-35. This figure reminds me of a Queen Adelaide bust that is now in our archive section, it may well be from the same factory.
