A good early pair of pearlware figures of lady and gentleman gardeners with their flowering bocage. Marked to the rear in an unusual raised manner, these figures can be attributed to the Staffordshire potter, John Walton. The lady stands on a decorative base coloured with green and brown enamels, she wears a hat, short sleeved blouse, skirt, and apron, in her right hand she holds a watering can, her left holding a bunch of freshly picked flowers. The male, also standing on a decorative base, wears a hat, open neck shirt, and knee high trousers, in his right hand he hold a flowering plant in a plant pot, beneath rests his spade, his left hand rests in his trouser pocket. This superbly decorated pair are very well modeled and richly painted with an abundance of overglaze enamel colours display wonderfully. The male figure has a professional restoration to the right bocage, and one bocage tip to the female figure. Made in Staffordshire, England c1820.
