A very fine original true pair of large seated greyhounds or whippets on grassy mounds, both with a dead hare at their feet. Made by the Thomas Parr factory c1850. Rarely do original pairs like these come on the market and in such good condition. This pair are decorated in overglaze enamels using shades of grey for the dogs, against a well coloured ground of green, brown, and yellow. The colour combination on the bases are typical of this potters work, almost a trade mark for attributing these and other familiar pieces from this factory. The condition is remarkable considering the fragile nature of the pair, just one professionally restored ear and a foot to one of the hares, no other damage, repairs, or restoration. They are one of the finest and most sought after pair of greyhounds to have come out of the Thomas Parr pottery.
