A Pair of Equestrian Sporting Riders “Tally Ho”

Stock No: 001130

Height:   14.25 Inches / 36 cm

Reference: Possibly Unrecorded

A very rare and previously unrecorded late Victorian pair of equestrian sporting riders. The male rider, titled in raised gilt capitals ‘Tally Ho“, mounted on horseback, dressed in hunting clothes with a riding helmet, both left and right hands are holding the reins, the horse in full gallop jumping a wall, a hound dog in chase at the feet of the horse. The female rider, also titled “Tally Ho”, mounted side saddle on horseback, wearing a top hat, full length riding dress and jacket, holding the reins with both hands as the horse in full gallop jumps a wooden fence, a hound dog in chase at the feet of the horse. Mainly white and gilt with overglaze enamel highlight colours to the faces, hands and clothes.

These dramatic pair of Victorian Staffordshire figures are in perfect original condition, with no damage repair or restoration. They were probably made by Lancaster & Sons, c1899 at their Dresden works, Hanley, Staffordshire. The modelling and titling  bares a striking resemblance to figures already known to originate from this manufacturer, see A.N. Harding Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1875-1962, page 41 Figures 4003P and 4005P/4006P.

Current Condition: No damage, restoration or repairs, crazed throughout and slight rubbing to the bright gold.
