An early 19th century Staffordshire pottery figure of a portly gentleman wearing a flat hat, waistcoat, jacket and long trousers. This very unusual figure has an air hole in the most appropriate place behind his back, I couldn’t resist turning him into a courting gentleman. My feeling is he portrays a character created by John Arbuthnot, an English satirist and the creator of ‘John Bull‘. It is in very good condition.
