A very rare pearlware glazed pottery bocage figure of a lion facing right with a cherub atop his back, standing four paws on a shaped base with applied flowering sprigs of blue, red, and green, a full flowering bocage to the rear. This example is attributed to the Patriotic group, it displays wonderfully with a full array of excellent overglaze enamels. The theme of the cherub on the back of a lion may be interpreted as love conquering all. Made in Staffordshire, England in the early 19th century period.

Current Condition: Some excellent restoration at three minor bocage tips and cupid’s front wing tip, no other damage, repairs, or restoration.
