A Standing Sailor (Thomas Potter Cooke)
Stock No: 001776
Height: 11.5 Inches / 29 cm
Reference: Possibly Unrecorded
A previously unrecorded portrait figure of “The most famous stage sailor of them all”. Thomas Potter Cooke dancing his hornpipe. Here we find him dressed as a sailor, standing cross-legged with his left hand on his anchor, his right raised to his head holding his hat. He wears a straw hat, short jacket, neckerchief, belt and bell-bottom trousers. One of the most unusual and attractive Staffordshire figures to be produced by the Potteries c1840’s, a very rare and fine example that I have never seen before. Professionally restored surface chips to base.
