A very rare and most unusual clothed and seated monkey ink well. The monkey is seated in a crouching position with crossed legs, his right hand held up, his left hand holds a jug as if to pour it, he is clothed in a jacket, neckerchief and trousers and wears a plumed hat. This remarkable figure pairs with another one we have in stock. It belongs to a series of other similar monkey related figures, three different versions have so far been recorded, there may be others. One we held in stock can be found in our archive. Made in Staffordshire, England c1840, this example is in very good condition having no damage, repairs, or restoration.
