A Victorian Cricket Match Childs Cup

Stock No: 001850

Height:  3.25 Inches / 8 cm

Reference: Possibly Unrecorded

A very rare Staffordshire transfer printed mug with blue transfer pattern to the outside from handle to handle, with a blue tinge in the led glaze and overall fine crazing. This fine example depicts a very well illustrated cricket match showing both wickets and pitch, bowler, both batsman, and wicket keeper, even the ball has been bowled and the middle stump is pushed back. A most unusual early Victorian child’s cup with a remarkable cricket theme, the caption below reads in capital letters ” OUR CAPTAIN’S MADE A CENTUARY  BUT NOW HE’S BOWLED AT LAST YOU SEE “. Made in Staffordshire, England c1840. The little mug is in mint perfect condition having no damage, repairs or restoration. I have not been able to locate another example in any reference book.
