A very rare and unusual Patch or Snuff box in the shape of a mans head, wearing a grey wig, it comes with the original screw-threaded ceramic cover. The body appears to be a yellow earthenware that is highlighted in a variety of underglaze oxide colours typically found on many Whieldon type plates and wares. These have produced several colours which include, spinach, tortoiseshell brown, and grey to the threaded cover, the head having manganese grey ground to the wig, the eyes are highlighted in dots of brown. A most interesting piece, I have never seen another like this example in any publication. It is quite remarkable for both parts to have survived together intact and complete over the centuries, it was created in Staffordshire, England c1760, minor historical wear.

Current condition: Very good, professional restoration to minor cover chip, no other damage, repairs, or restoration.
