A most desirable large and imposing figure of an “Amazon” on horseback on an oval base, with her right hand raised to her head, a wild animal skin acting as a saddle is draped over the horse, wearing a helmet, cloak, bodice, and skirt. This is the best coloured example of this figure ever to be found and is very rare. I have only ever come across four others, one has been found titled in gilt script and two others poorly decorated and untitled. Amazon is a term for a female warrior, this figure probably portraying a circus act performed at Astley’s Amphitheatre during the 1850s. Professional invisible restoration to back leg of horse and spear top.
