This very rare Victorian Staffordshire figure depicts a military soldier on horseback, designed as a pocket watch holder. The soldier and horse are elegantly mounted on a shaped base that features an opening for accommodating a pocket watch and chain, with intricate details highlighted in gold paint. The figure showcases the soldier in a gold helmet, coloured tunic, and riding trousers, and black knee-high boots. In his right hand, he holds a sword, while his left features a heart-shaped shield adorned with a cross motif at its center. This particular piece is the only version of this distinctive figure I have documented, dating back to the 1870s, and is in superb condition.
