A wonderful matched pair of group figures of a woman seated upon a camel with a man standing below. Both are in Arabian dress. She is taking a cup from him and is wearing a turban, blouse, and dress with sash around her waist; he is holding a leather water bottle in his right hand, wearing a turban, jacket, and pantaloons. There is a small drinking pool on the groud. The female figure is thought to represent the adventurer and explorer Lady Hester Stanhope and her personal physician and traveling companion Charles Lewis Meryon. Made in Staffordshire, England c1852 by the Thomas Parr factory. The figures have invisible professional repairs to the tails of both camels.
