A spectacular bareknuckle boxing sporting jug, densely decorated with black transfer printed scenes that have been originally highlighted in places with overglaze enamel colours. A truly fabulous find for collectors of early period sporting memorabilia and pugilist/boxing related collectables. This diminutive jug includes an array of sporting themes that include; stag hunting ‘Nr Windsor’, cock fighting, fox hunting, bull baiting, and bareknuckle boxing. Titled ‘Fives Court‘ after the famous boxing ring in Panton Street, Haymarket, London. Tom Cribb, ‘Champion of all England’ was the landlord of the Union Arms (now The Tom Cribb) which held fights for ‘men of letters’, celebrities who attended these fights included notable  actors of the day, including Lord Byron, a great friend of the famous pugilist. This little jug is in remarkable condition for its age having a minor professional invisible repair to a chip on the rim, c1818-1826.
