An exceptional quality c1810 Staffordshire pottery lead-glazed bust. This exquisite, petite bust of Cybele is painted in beautiful enamel colours and measures 6.2 inches. Cybele was the earth mother of Phrygia, and her cult spread to ancient Greece and Rome. She was associated with lions, and here she wears a lion skin draped around her.
