A superb quality true pair of pottery pearlware figures of Elijah and the Widow of Zarephath with fine attention to detail and wonderful enamel decoration. The pair have been attributed to the “Patriot” group of figures made in Staffordshire, England, c1820. The decorative bocage hoops are perfect and come with an abundance of flowers and perfectly formed leaves which makes this one of the most attractive version of this popular subject. The figures are based on the Old Testament book, 1 Kings 17, which tells the story of Elijah’s meeting with the Widow and her son. A poignant reminder to provision from on high at a time of poverty and need, a reflection of the times these wonderful examples were created.

Current Condition: Superb, near perfect, professional invisible minor restoration to tip of sticks and one raven’s wing, no other damage, repairs, or restoration.
