Reference: Harding Staffordshire Figures 1875-1962, Page 68, Fig 4074

A rare large figure of Charles George Gordon, titled General Gordon in indented gilt capitals on an oval shaped base, seated side saddle on the back of a camel, wearing a fez and dressed in jacket and trousers, he holds the reins with his left hand, his right holds a baton with which to control the animal. The source of this figure is based on the statue by Onslow Ford, which was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1890. It now stands outside the School of Military Engineering in Chatham in Kent. This figure is the best decorated example I have ever seen. Minor professional repair at the neck and baton. Made in Staffordshire, England c1890.
