A superb, rare, and previously unrecorded large bust of George Frederic Handel 9.75 Inches high. This bust of Handel (1685-1759) the composer is in lead-glazed earthenware and painted in overglaze enamels. Dressed in full wig, neckerchief, pink buttoned jacket over which is thrown a yellow and orange cloak . He is on a shaped and sculpted burgundy-lined socle. Probably after a work by Louis-Francois Roubiliac. This example reminds me of similar quality figures produced by Ralph Wood but is not signed, the quality is stunning and the largest pearlware example of a Handel bust to be recorded c1790-1810. Condition, professional restoration to minor chips on socle.
