A portrait figure of the fictional Shakespearian character Sir John Falstaff with an unusual makers marks to the back. Falstaff is standing on a well-coloured rococo style base, wearing a long coat and belted waistcoat, holding a sword in his right hand, a shield on his left arm. This figure was copied from a Derby figure circa 1766 to mark the death of actor James Quin, the source being an undated mezzotint by J. McArdell. There is a reference to this figure in the V&A museum. Some slight overglaze enamel loss to the base, otherwise in excellent condition.
