A rare early Staffordshire  figure of the Greek hero Jason who led the Argonauts on their voyage to capture the Golden Fleece from the king of Colchis. Here Jason stands on a square base with burgundy line to all four sides, beside him is a fluted round column on which is placed a sacrificial goat. He holds a knife in his right hand and holds the kid with his other whilst sacrificing the animal, below is a bowl to capture the sacrificial blood. He is bare footed and wears a long robe tied at the waist. This early pearlware example has a professional restoration to the goats horns and one ear, no other damage, repairs, or restoration. It was possibly made by Enoch Wood, Staffordshire, England late 1700’s.
