A large group figure of a man and woman seated on a titled base with raised gilt capitals, the woman holding a cup in her left hand and wearing a hat, jacket, and double skirted dress, he with his right hand around her and his left hand holding a jug on a trestle table, wearing a brimmed hat, jacket, neckerchief, waistcoat, his wife peering through a shuttered window above. It is thought that this figure was inspired by a popular melodrama play of the same name. It is mentioned in Boswell’s journal of London, he noted that David Garrick had performed in a production. The figure is in original condition having no repairs or restoration, there is a minor surface chip to the trestle table leg, no other damage. It was made in Staffordshire c1860.
