John Andersons Wife

Stock No: 001818

Height: 6.75 Inches / 17 cm

Reference: Harding Book 3, Page 81, Fig a973B

A very rare standing figure of Mrs John Anderson wearing a plumed hat, coat, and long dress. The identification of this figure is taken from other similar figures of Jo Anderson and his partner, they depict the stages of their long life together, from youth to old age and is a reflection of the popular Robert Burns poem loved by the Victorians. I know of seven figures from this series, all made by the Alpha factory c1845. This figure has a professional repair to the underside.

John Anderson my jo, John,
    When we were first acquent,
Your locks were like the raven,
      Your bonie brow was brent;
But now your brow is beld, John,
      Your locks are like the snaw,
but blessings on your frosty pow,
      John Anderson, my jo!
John Anderson my jo, John,
      We clamb the hill thegither,
And monie a cantie day, John,
      We’ve had wi’ ane anither;
Now we maun totter down, John,
      And hand in hand we’ll go,
And sleep thegither at the foot,
      John Anderson, my jo!
