A superb and previously unrecorded Dudson group figure on a well coloured and gilded base, richly decorated with flowers and green grass, the piece represents an idyllic family setting with a sporting connection. A mother reads to her young children, she is seated holding an open book in both hands, wearing a short sleeved blouse and skirt, to her left, a young girl leans on her shoulder, she has a toy doll on her lap, wearing a short sleeved blouse and skirt, to the mothers right, a boy rests his left hand on the back of her head, his right is holding a cricket bat, wearing a long sleeved buttoned jacket and trousers, a toy cradle below. This figure has a striking resemblance to similar figures produced at the Dudson factory by Thomas & James Dudson, during the production period 1837-1845. The same subject was also produced in the late 1840’s by the Dudson factory using a more simplified form, a delightful spill vase, which can be found decorated in a number of colourways.

Current condition: Very good, professional invisible restoration to boys left foot and dolls head, no other damage, repairs, or restoration.
