A very rare Victorian Staffordshire figure of a New York fireman standing, wearing a helmet, buttoned jacket, and trousers with boots, his left arm on his hip. There is a cloak or blanket over his left hand arm and his right hand holds a hailer which is resting on a pedestal or water hydrant by his side. This figure can be found in three different sizes, 9 inch, 6 inch, and 3.5 inches. The figure is in excellent condition, a small chip to the left side of the base has been professionally restored and is invisible. The figure may well have been made for the American market. The source of the figure may have derived from one of several colour lithograph published in 1858 by Currier and Ives, publisher (Louis Maurer, artist), The American Fireman, Rushing to the Conflict.
