A fine true pair of black and white Staffordshire spaniels signed number 1 size to the underside. These dogs can be found numbered from 1 to 6 in graduated sizes, number 1 being the largest at around 13 inches high and 6 being the smallest at 5.5 inches high. They can also be found in a number of different colourways, red and white, white and gilt, all black (Jackfield) and also lustre and white. Made in their thousands, we try to locate the very best examples. This true pair are black and white with a gold chains and gold padlock collars, a  very fine pair indeed, in very good condition with original firing faults to the underside of their bases, no damage, repairs, or restoration. Made in Staffordshire, England c1860’s.
