A very unusual Staffordshire pearlware ink well figure in the form of a shoe. The top of the shoe has two openings, one to hold an ink pen and the other to hold ink. Decorated with a profusion of overglaze enamel colours, this example is the only pearlware shoe I have encountered. Made in Staffordshire, England c1820, the figure is in original condition having no damage, repairs, or restoration.
