A superb quality pearlware enamel glazed Staffordshire figure of a standing Putto on a square stepped  marble effect base. This version of Putto has apparently also been found mounted on a table base figure after the famous potter Obadiah Sherratt. Here Putto stands representing the Archangel Gabriel, wearing a garment around the waist, he holds a trumpet to his mouth with the right arm raised, in his left hand he is holding an open book. The figure is in exceptional condition having no damage of repairs, just two minor touches to the green overglaze enamel to the base. This is the actual figure used as the illustration in Myrna’s book. Made in Staffordshire, England c1820.
