Robert Burns & Highland Mary (Scottish Pottery)

Stock No: 000968

Height: 11.75 Inches / 30 cm

Reference: Possibly Unrecorded

An unusual and very rare pair, both made in the Staffordshire tradition but probably originating from one of the Scottish potteries. The figures represent Robert Burns and Highland Mary, Burns stands on a round hollow base with black script title ‘Burns’, wearing a shirt, waistcoat, jacket, and trousers, Mary also on a round hollow base with black script title ‘Mary’, wearing bonnet, scarf, short jacket and long dress. A fine large and heavy pair of figures from an increasingly popular and highly collected Scottish group of pot banks, probably on the east coast of Scotland. The gold highlights to the glaze have rubbed in places and would suggest that they were manufactured c1880’s.

Current Condition: Mary professional and invisible restoration at the neck.
