A fine group figure of a sailor seated on rockwork asleep wearing a jacket, shirt with tie, and trousers. He is barefooted and holds a flag under his right arm, his head rests on his hand that rests on his raised knee. To his right there is an arch under which a stream flows and, kneeling on rockwork, a woman is praying. It is believed the figure is portraying the sailor dreaming of home and his sweetheart praying for his safe return. This rare example is in original perfect condition having no damage, repairs, or restoration. It was made in Staffordshire, England c1850’s.
