Reference: Stephen Duckworth Victorian Staffordshire Pottery Religious Figures (Stories on the Mantelpiece), Page 65, Fig 6.11 (C.38a)

A very rare original Victorian Staffordshire figure of a Saint or a Bishop. Standing robed and wearing a mitre on his head, with both hands raised and holding a book. The figure is possibly an interpenetration of St Patrick as another similar figure has been recorded with toads at his feet. This figure is the actual figure used as the illustration in Stephen’s book, it is one of only three known example recorded, this example is the best of its type being in perfect condition, it was possibly made by the Alpha factory in the 1840’s.

Provenance: From the collection of the late Stephen Duckworth.
