Sir John Falstaff

Stock No: 001658

Height: 6.5 Inches / 16 cm

Reference: Pugh 1st Edition, Page E424, Plate 7, Fig 23

A seated Sir John Falstaff figure wearing a plumed bonnet, cloak, waistcoat, breeches and knee-boots, a mug in his right hand, a scroll in his left hand and his foot on a stool. Pugh states that this figure could portray Luigi Lablache, the opera singer, in the role of John Falstaff. The figure pairs with a seated lady holding a scroll, it is my belief that the two figures represent a scene from the Shakespeare play, ‘The Merry Wives of Windsor‘. This figure is very hard to find in perfect original condition, this example having no damage, repairs, or restoration. It was made in Staffordshire, England c1845.
