A lovely early example of a Pearlware figure of St Mark made by John Walton. One of a set of four figures representing the Gospels of the New Testament, Mathew, Mark, Luke and John. Saint Mark can be found sandaled standing on a titled base holding a large open book in his right hand, his left raised, a lion at his feet. He wears a long robe tied at the waist, a scarf over his shoulders, with a magnificent full bocage. The figure is marked Walton to the rear of the base.
