A superb example of Staffordshire pearlware pottery attributed to Obadiah Sherratt c1820. One of the rarest biblical figures depicting God’s command to Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac to Him, only to relent at the last moment and provide a ram as an offering instead. Because of his commitment to God, Abraham proves himself worthy again to be the patriarch of Israel. This Old Testament figure is one of the largest bocage type figures produced relating to this subject. As with many of the Biblical figures it is extremely well potted and decorated with fine over-glaze enamels. This figure is also remarkably complete, it retains the angel in among the bocage leaves. A rather poignant touch is the placing of the ram sheltering under the bocage bush at the feet of Abraham.

Current Condition: Professional restoration to raised arm, knife blade, minor bocage tips, and wing chips.
