A superb rare and important Staffordshire pottery figure group of a young girl with her prize family of sheep, the figure has a pearlware glaze and is decorated in fabulous quality enamel colours. Previously unrecorded, this large scale and imposing stand alone figure has it all. The figure depicts an attractive young lady dressed in a richly decorated short sleeved summer dress and holding a beautifully detailed flower wreath prize in her left hand, her right is around a baby lamb that stands proudly atop a stone column, behind and to her side is a magnificent full flowering tree bocage. Standing on a round raised base adorned with coloured flowers and grasses painted with green, brown, and turquoise overglaze enamels, are the rest of the sheep family, a standing ram and ewe, to the lower left is a reclining lamb, each graduated and leading up to the little lamb. In fabulous condition, this figure is a truly unique example of the Staffordshire potters artistry and skill at its very best. Made in Staffordshire, England c1820.
