A lovely figure of an English sailor standing on a gilt lined base with his left arm to his side holding a flag, his right hand resting on his hip, wearing a hat, jacket, shirt, neckerchief, and trousers. To his side is a column of forward-facing cannons set into a wall and to his feet a pile of cannonballs. This extremely rare figure is part of a triptych, its pair, a soldier in a mirror image and a centrepiece of two figures standing side by side as a group piece. This example is in excellent condition with the flag tip restored, it was produced during the Crimean war c1854.
