Stock No: 002117

Height: 10.75 Inches / 27 cm

Reference: Harding Book 1, Page 304, Fig 1112

A rare figure of a standing sailor beside some rope thought to represent Ben Backstay, standing crossed-legged on a coloured base, with right hand holding a money-bag, his left hand on his hip holding a boater, there is a net or ships rope resting on rock-work to his side, wearing a jacket, neckerchief, shirt, and trousers. This figure could also be from the Crimean war period and represent his return home from war. Made in Staffordshire, England c1856, the figure is in original condition with no damage, repairs, or restoration, just minor touches to the overglaze enamels to the base.
