Height: 8.25 Inches / 21 cm

Reference: Harding Book 1, Page 305, Fig 1119

A figure of Stephen Foster on a circular coloured base, he is seated, holding a banjo in his left hand, wearing a hat, jacket, neckerchief, shirt, and trousers. This figure is decorated in the manner of the Thomas Parr factory. It displays a transfer title that reads: ‘I’m going to Alabama id my banjo on my knee; I come from Louisiana My true lub for to see Oh Susanna”. The decorators have painted this figure as a black man, Stephen Foster was white. Many of Foster’s songs were of the blackface minstrel show tradition popular at the time but now recognized as racist. A wonderful and rare example c1848-49.
