A standing figure of Madame Vestris as a ‘Broom Girl’, standing on a square gilt lined base, wearing a bonnet and calf-length frock, Bavarian style. Her  left hand is raised to her waist as if holding a broom (a hole is fashioned in her hand to take the prop), in her right hand she holds a small brush. Lucia Elizabeth Vestris adopted her stage name Madame Vestris in 1826. Her rendition of the song ‘Buy a Broom’ was so popular it inspired the Staffordshire potters to commemorate her role in ceramic. This example is dated to c1835-40 and is made from a porcelaneous body, it is in remarkable condition with no damage, repairs, or restoration.
