A group figure of three women standing on a titled oval base with raised gold capitals, wearing long dresses, the woman on the left holds an open book in her hands, the one in the middle stands on a pedestal holding an anchor (the Hope Anchor) and the one on the right holds a child in her arms. The pedestal is inscribed with raised gilt capitals FAITH HOPE AND CHARITY. The independent Order of Good Templars was founded in New York State in 1851 with the aim of the world wide abolition of alcohol, the order came to Britain in 1868. This figure is the best example I have ever seen, it is in superb condition having only minor touches to the hair in places. Made in Staffordshire, England c1868.
