A rare figure of a man panning gold, standing barefoot on a gilt lined round base. He holds a pan in his right hand, a spade in his left, a rake lying at his feet, wearing a wide brimmed plumed hat, open neck shirt, waistcoat, and trousers rolled up to the knees. It has been suggested that this figure represents a Welsh goldminer. Gold was mined in Wales in Victorian times. This figure is in fine original condition having a repair to a minor chip to the plume on hat, it dates to c1860, the year the Gwynfynydd mine was discovered.
