A figure of Gladstone titled in raised gilt capitals, standing, dressed in bow tie, frock coat, waistcoat and trousers, his left hand is held to his waist and in his right hand he holds an axe with a tree stump behind, above his left shoulder is a large flag, which is usually decorated as a Union Jack. This figure and its pair were made to commemorate the Kilmainham Peace Treaty of 1882, between England and Ireland, a centrepiece for this pair was also made of an angel standing above and behind two women, representing Britannia and Ireland. In excellent condition having a professional repair at the neck. At the time of listing we hold all three figures of this set in stock, they make a remarkable garniture display.
