A fine pair of figures of John Milton and William Shakespeare standing on a shaped gilt lined base, Milton with his right hand holding a book, his left arm leaning on a pillar, holding a scroll, wearing a cloak, doublet, and breeches, and stockings, Shakespeare standing cross-legged on a shaped gilt lined base, his right arm across his waist, his left elbow resting on a pillar holding a scroll, wearing waistcoat, breeches, and stockings. These figures are well coloured in the round and in original condition having one repair to the finger of Shakespeare, no other restoration or repairs. Made in Staffordshire, England c1840.
