A pearlware glazed enamel decorated figure of a pig standing against the trunk of a tree on a green base, the tree acting as a spill vase. Very few pig figures were produce in the early 19th century, hence the rarity, most of those that have been documented have required restoration. This piece is the exception, it is in perfect unrestored condition, and captures the innate charm and character of this essential farm animal, possibly after a ‘Gloucester Old Spot‘. It was made in Portobello, a small town outside Edinburgh, in the early 19th century. A very rare model, sponged decorated in black enamel, the tree in brown, green, and red, standing on a green base. It still retains the original prestigious D. M. & P. Manheim dealer label to the underside.
