A charming and rare early pearlware figure of a standing country girl gardening, she is surrounded with freshly picked flowers, emblematic of spring, and representing one of the four seasons. She is holding a wicker basket full of flowers in her left hand and holds a flower in her right, standing on a raised square grey enameled base decorated with flower heads and tufts of grass, wearing a wide brimmed hat, full length dress and short sleeved blouse, and bodice, the dress decorated with a variety of coloured patterns. The figure displaying a magnificent variety of overglaze enamel colours. This example is attributed to the Grey base group, it has a professional restoration to some flower heads and touches to the green enamel. Made in Staffordshire, England c1820.
