A group figure of two men, each of whom is bare-headed, sit on either side of a table. The man on the left, wears a long jacket, waistcoat, breeches, stockings, and shoes and in his right hand, he holds a long clay pipe. The rather older chap on the right wears a jacket, waistcoat, trousers and shoes, in his left hand, he holds a mug. They hold hands across the table and on the tabletop is another clay pipe on its side and a jug. It is possible that the figure depicts a scene from Charles Dickens novel ‘The Pickwick Papers‘ in chapter 20 where Mr Pickwick and Sam Weller are discussing the merits of marriage.
