A rare figure standing on a titled circular gilt lined base, the title printed in black capital letters ‘Protestantism‘. A young woman wearing a long dress, in her left hand an open Bible, her right hand rests on a scroll which reads, ‘Search the Scriptures. John 5.39. Prove all things. thes. 5.27. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly. C3.16. To the Law and to the Testimony, if they speak not accordingly to this word it is because there is no light in them Isa.8.26.’ Behind the scroll it is inscribed ‘the Bible is the Religion is Protestants. It is everything else from God, free as the air we breathe. It spurns alike indulgences and Penance.’ This figure was made by the Thomas Parr factory c1850, it is in perfect original condition having no damage, restoration, or repairs.
