An imposing large Staffordshire pottery pearlware bust of George Whitfield, celebrating one of the pioneers of the Methodist movement . On the reverse of the figure there is a raised circular medallion which reads ” THE REVD.GEORGE WHITFIELD, SEPT.30 1770 DIED AGED 56. ENOCH WOOD SCULP.BURSLEM”.
The modelling of the bust is exceptional and depicts a life like complexion and shows Whitfield’s famous squint perfectly. The attention to detail of his immaculate wig and robes are another crucial components of this life-like rendition of the important Methodist preacher. Dated: 1795 to 1800 Burslem Staffordshire England UK.
Current Condition: Stabilised hairline professionally repaired to the underside of socle and minor touches to robes.
